World Congress for Environmental History

All over the world, directly or indirectly to make their living, humans interact with the environment. This relationship arose from the need and desire of humans to survive, to create artifacts, reflect their beliefs on the nature and recreate. All along theirs history, humans have had a considerable impact on the environment of the Earth. This has lead to both the resilience and the damage of the natural systems. Scientists, scholars and historians studying the many fields on Environmental History usually have a better and environmentally-friendly future for humans as goal.

The first WCEH, (short for the World Congress for Environmental History) brought together a large number of scholars (around 600) originating from over 50 countries all around the world. This congress aimed to provide these scholars with a unique opportunity to share their knowledge and thus create the most overarching picture, the first of the kind, of the history of the interactions between the environment and humans. These interactions exist on several scales, with effects ranging from the local to the global environment.

The World Congress for Environmental History offered all the members present to meet their colleagues and introduce themselves to the field’s society. Its main goal was to accumulate a large variety of research papers from elite scholars and make them available to an audience that was eager to learn more and discuss about the connection between environmental history and politics. Visit www.ceh2009.org for more details about the topics.

ICEHO

The ICEHO, short for the International Consortium of Environmental History Organizations, consists of a large number of organizations with special interests in the environmental history. The goal of this Consortium is to boost the communication among its members all over the world, by encouraging each of them to share their knowledge, discuss their challenges, concerns and issues and hopefully learn from each other’s successes and failures.
